How to Apply Glass Coating — A Step-by-Step Guide

Applying a nano glass coating correctly makes the difference between a finish that lasts years and one that fails within weeks. This guide walks you through the exact process used by professionals — from surface preparation through to final cure.

What You'll Need

  • CL-50 Glass Surface Cleaner — essential pre-treatment for all Nanovations glass coatings
  • NG-1010 Glass Coating ( Vision Protect or NG-1314 for dust reduction applications)
  • Microfibre applicator cloth
  • Clean lint-free buffing cloth
  • Gloves

Step 1: Prepare the Glass with CL-50

This is the most important step. CL-50 is a purpose-formulated glass surface cleaner that removes contamination nano coatings cannot bond through — including grease, silicone residue, mineral deposits, hard water stains, and fingerprints.

Apply CL-50 directly to the glass and wipe firmly with a clean microfibre cloth. Work in sections and buff dry. Do not substitute with household glass cleaners — these leave surfactant residues that will prevent the coating from adhering correctly.

CL-50 must be used before applying any Nanovations glass coating product.

Step 2: Ensure the Surface is Dry

Allow the glass to dry completely after CL-50 treatment. Work in shade, away from direct sunlight, and avoid high humidity conditions.

Step 3: Apply NG-1010 Glass Coating

Apply a small amount of NG-1010 to your applicator cloth. Work in 30cm x 30cm sections using overlapping circular motions. Apply a thin, even layer.

Step 4: Allow Flash Time

Allow 1–3 minutes for the coating to flash off. A slight haze indicates the nano coating is bonding to the glass.

Step 5: Buff to a Clear Finish

Buff firmly with a clean dry lint-free cloth until completely clear. Repeat for each section.

Curing Time

Avoid water contact for 24 hours. Full cure at 7 days.

Pro Tips

  • Always apply in shade
  • Use fresh applicator cloths
  • For large surfaces, work in manageable sections
