Concrete and masonry are porous by nature. Water enters through capillary pores, carrying dissolved salts that cause efflorescence, rising damp, surface staining, and long-term structural damage. Traditional surface sealers slow this process — but nano coating technology stops it permanently.
Two Ways to Protect Concrete with 3001
Nanovations offers two approaches depending on whether you're working with new or existing concrete:
1. Admixture — Mixed into Wet Concrete
The 3001 Hydrophobic Agent Admixture is added directly to the gauging water during concrete, screed, mortar, or render production. It becomes a permanent part of the material — protecting the entire structure from the inside out, not just the surface.
3-Step Application:
- Dilute: Mix 1 part 3001 with 100 parts water
- Mix: Use this solution as your gauging water for your dry mix
- Cure: Allow to cure as normal — within 24 hours the substrate is fully hydrophobic
2. Surface Sealer — Applied to Existing Concrete
The 3001 Concrete Sealer Concentrate is applied to the surface of existing cured concrete or masonry. It penetrates deep into the capillary structure and chemically bonds to the calcium silicate hydrate in the cement.
How Does it Work?
3001 reacts chemically with the cement matrix, lining the internal pores with a water-repellent layer. Critically, it does not block the pores — the concrete remains fully vapour permeable (it can breathe) while actively repelling water. It can hold hydrostatic pressure between 60mm and up to 100mm.
What Does it Protect Against?
- Water ingress and rising damp
- Efflorescence (salt deposits)
- Moss and algae formation
- Surface staining and discolouration
Compatible Substrates
- Concrete and concrete masonry
- Sand-cement screeds and renders
- Mortar and grouts
- Retaining walls, driveways, building facades
- Pavers, bricks, roof tiles, and porous natural stone
Is it Safe?
Yes — 3001 is VOC-free, water-based, and compliant with LEED requirements. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
