Concrete is one of the most widely used building materials in the world — and one of the most vulnerable to water damage. Untreated concrete absorbs moisture through its capillary pores, leading to efflorescence, rising damp, freeze-thaw cracking, and long-term structural deterioration. Nano coating technology offers a permanent solution that works from the inside out.
Why Concrete Needs Protection
Concrete is porous by nature. Water enters through microscopic capillary channels and carries dissolved salts to the surface as it evaporates — this is efflorescence. In cold climates, water that freezes inside the pores expands and causes cracking. In coastal or industrial environments, salt and chemical attack accelerate deterioration further.
Traditional surface sealers slow this process but wear away over time. Nano coatings chemically bond to the substrate and provide permanent protection.
Two Products, Two Applications
For New Concrete — 3001 Hydrophobic Agent Admixture
The 3001 Hydrophobic Agent Admixture is mixed directly into the gauging water during concrete, screed, mortar, or render production. It becomes a permanent part of the material, protecting the entire structure from the inside out for the life of the building.
Application: Mix 1 part 3001 with 100 parts water, then use this as your gauging water. Within 24 hours of curing, the substrate is fully hydrophobic.
For Existing Concrete — 3001 Concrete Sealer Concentrate
The 3001 Concrete Sealer Concentrate is applied to the surface of existing cured concrete or masonry. Diluted 1:9 with water, it penetrates up to 10mm into the capillary structure and chemically bonds to the cement matrix.
Application: Dilute 1 litre of concentrate with 9 litres of water. Apply by spray wet on wet to saturation (200 ml/m²). One litre of concentrate treats up to 50 m².
How Does it Work?
Both products react chemically with the calcium silicate hydrate in the cement, lining the internal pores with a water-repellent layer. Critically, neither product blocks the pores — the concrete remains fully vapour permeable (it can breathe) while actively repelling water. Hydrostatic pressure resistance: 60mm to 100mm.
What Does it Protect Against?
- Water ingress and rising damp
- Efflorescence (white salt deposits)
- Freeze-thaw damage
- Moss and algae formation
- Surface staining and discolouration
- Chemical and salt attack
Compatible Substrates
- Concrete and concrete masonry
- Sand-cement screeds and renders
- Mortar and grouts
- Pavers, bricks, and roof tiles
- Fibre cement products
- Porous natural stone
Is it Safe?
Yes — both 3001 products are VOC-free, water-based, and LEED compliant. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use. The solvent is simply water.
Coverage and Cost
At approximately $1.00 per m² for the surface sealer, 3001 is the most cost-effective penetrating sealer on the Australian market. The 12-litre concentrate covers up to 600 m².
