What is a Hydrophobic Coating?

A hydrophobic coating is an ultra-thin protective layer applied to a surface that causes water to bead up and roll off rather than spread and absorb. The word hydrophobic comes from the Greek — hydro (water) and phobos (fear). In practical terms, it means surfaces stay cleaner, dry faster, and resist staining, corrosion, and contamination.

How Does it Work?

Hydrophobic coatings work by dramatically reducing the surface energy of the material they're applied to. When water contacts a high surface energy material like untreated glass or concrete, it spreads out and clings. When it contacts a nano-coated surface, the water molecules have nothing to bond to — they form tight droplets and roll away, taking dirt and contaminants with them.

How Long Does a Hydrophobic Coating Last?
